Quick Bytes by George Rodriguez

6/21/18. President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., has withdrawn from a fundraiser for Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush in New York because of criticism toward his father, President Trump, by the Bush family. Trump Jr. had cautioned George P. in recent weeks that he would not be able to publicly support him if his father Jeb Bush continued to criticize the President.

Yesterday, Monday, June18, Jeb Bush tweeted, “Children shouldn’t be used as a negotiating tool. @realDonaldTrump should end this heartless policy and Congress should get an immigration deal done that provides for asylum reform, border security and a path to citizenship for Dreamers.”

Also, on Sunday, former First Lady Laura Bush wrote a critical article in the liberal Washington Post saying, “These images (of illegal alien families being separated) are eerily reminiscent of the internment camps for U.S. citizens and noncitizens of Japanese descent during World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history.” Former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager added on NBC’s Today Show this morning, Tuesday, June 19, that she was proud of her mother’s comments regarding the separation of illegal alien families.

If the Bush family’s comment weren’t enough, a former G.W. Bush aide has added his voice to the Trump attacks. Richard Painter has become a high-profile critic of Trump and he announced Monday that he would be running for a Minnesota Senate seat as a …DEMOCRAT!

Given these direct and indirect attacks and criticisms of President Trump by the Bush family and their supporters, is there little wonder Donald Jr. declined to attend the George P. fundraiser?  Of course many Texans might wonder why George P. would have a fund raiser in New York City to run for a state office in Texas.

The latest plans for designing the Alamo in San Antonio were revealed Tuesday night, June 5, including scrapping the controversial glass walls proposed last year…and moving the Cenotaph.

The crowd at the Witte Museum’s Prassel Auditorium watched, listened, booed and cheered as members of the Alamo Citizens Advisory Committee presented its updated Comprehensive Interpretive Plan. The Alamo Citizens Advisory Committee is a creation of the SA city government, and is influenced heavily by the liberal majority in the SA city council.

Liberal Democrat SA city councilman Robert Trevino defended the new plans saying “The Alamo Citizens Advisory Committee first gathered in 2014 and worked tirelessly to develop the vision and guiding principles for this preservation effort. Adherence to those guiding principles is paramount in ensuring this plan tells the entire 10,000-year story of the Alamo while creating a public space that can speak to the iconic site’s layered history while being embraced fully by the community.”

Reading between the lines, the “plans to tell the entire 10,000-year story” means the 1836 Battle will be downplayed and watered down. Liberals want to make the Alamo’s story more inclusive of all people, and less about what some call “American imperialism” and “Manifest Destiny”.

For 182 years, the Alamo has been the symbol of Texas’ fight for freedom and liberty, and the principles framed in the U.S. Constitution. However, Chicano activists and other liberals hSome people might say that moving the cenotaph 500ft. is not that bad. However, the concern should not be so much about the distance of the cenotaph’s relocation, as much as it should be about how the story of Battle of 1836 will be told. The fight for Texas liberty, its reasons, and its principles, could be watered down, minimized, and compromised for the sake of political correctness and global tourism. Let’s remember that with liberals, if you give them an inch they’ll take a mile.

Sadly, these redesign plans for the Alamo are probably a first step to rewrite Texas history. Unless local SA voters elect a new more Texas-focused city council and county commission, it appears people who have a liberty-first view of the Alamo have been shut out and shut up.

Remember, the defense of freedom and liberty starts in your backyard.  ave long claimed the Alamo is symbol of “American occupation” of Mexico. Even Rosa Castro, the mother of former SA mayor Julian Castro and current Democrat congressman Joaquin Castro, disparaged the Alamo’s symbolism and defenders during her activist days with “La Raza Unida”.

Of further interest is that Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, who manages the Alamo, supports the redesign plans. George P. easily won his primary for re-election against several challengers who questioned his management, involvement, and plans about Alamo. He is practically assured to win the general election in November.

Some people might say that moving the cenotaph 500ft. is not that bad. However, the concern should not be so much about the distance of the cenotaph’s relocation, as much as it should be about how the story of Battle of 1836 will be told. The Murder Case of Border Patrol Agent Vega – An illegal alien from Mexico who has previously been arrested and deported multiple times for entering the U.S. illegally, was found guilty of the 2014 murder of Border Patrol agent Javier Vega Jr. in Texas. Vega Jr. was gunned down in front of his family on while they fished on their day off.

Gustavo Tijerina-Sandoval and his accomplice, Ismael Hernandez-Vallejo, attempted to rob Vega Jr. to pay off a debt. According to court testimony and police statements Tijerina-Sandoval tried justified the robbery by claiming he was being threaten by someone over an unpaid loan. Making excuses to justify illegal behavior seems to be a recurring theme among Leftists.

It is also interesting how silent the Obama Administration and former Attorney General were over Vega’s murder versus their immediate reactions to shootings in Ferguson, MO and Baltimore, MD. Obama did not seem to support law enforcement at the border or in the communities.  Just as the number of police officers has risen dramatically the past 8 years, so have attacks on and deaths of Border Patrol agents.

Murder accomplice Ismael Hernandez-Vallejo has yet to go to trial for the same charges. Tijerina-Sandoval could receive the death penalty in the sentencing phase for his trial, which is set to begin Thursday afternoon.

Fake News and Sympathy for Illegal Immigration – The liberal San Antonio Express-News has a front page report about the pro-illegal alien rally last night organized by Democrat Cong. Joaquin Castro. The article quotes people all sympathetic the ILLEGAL alien children separated from their ILLEGAL alien parents when they are apprehended for entering ILLEGALLY into the U.S.

Fake Polls and the Texas Senate Race – The latest Quinnipiac University poll shows Republican incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz has opened up a double digit lead over Democrat challenger U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (50% – 39%) the Texas Senate race. This compares to the April 18 survey that showed close race with Sen. Cruz at 47% and O’Rourke at 44%. While O’Rourke has been emphasizing his “Hispanic” roots, Cruz now even lead among Hispanic voters 46%-44%.

O’Rourke has received a lot of donations from California and New York, but not much from Texas Democrats, which make many wonder how serious this run really is. Texans should be reminded that O’Rourke is pro-illegal immigration and sanctuary cities, pro-abortion, pro-central government and judicial activism, and loves to tax and spend.

Vote for Ted Cruz in 2018.

Voter Fraud and “Politiqueros” – Politiqueros are community activists who are paid to “harvest votes” by bringing elderly voters to polling places or manipulating the mail-in ballot system. This is traditional method of influencing elections in South Texas by political machines and Establishments.

Democrats and liberals view voting as right for everyone and anyone, everywhere and anywhere. They want to make it “easier” for people to vote.

However, voting should be privileged reserved for people who have an investment in the government rather than just reside in the jurisdiction.

Politiqueros do illegal work for politicians for pay, that party precinct chairs should do for their party and candidates.

Political machines and Establishments resist efforts to address voter fraud such as Voter ID laws, because honest elections could result in election losses and erode their power. While Democrats, Establishments, and political machines resist legislation to curtail politiqueros and voter fraud, party precinct chairs should step up to challenge politiqueros at their own game, but legally. Precinct chairs should be more active in their communities to help the elderly, disabled, and uninformed vote…legally.

Tyrants and Freedom of Travel – Tyranny is all about control and power, and controlling mobility and travel is important in controlling the population. In the latest example of a government controlling people’s mobility and freedom of travel, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced a state-funded travel ban to Oklahoma on Friday, June 1st.

The ban is in response to an Oklahoma policy that allows private adoption and foster agencies to deny placements based on religious or moral grounds. California state leaders said the policy discriminates against same-sex couples or LGBT parents and they (California) not tolerate it.

California passed a law in 2017 that bans state-funded or state-sponsored travel to states they determine discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

However, while the state of California may have one policy, they should respect another’s state policies. In a federal system of government, states are free to create their own policies as determined by that state’s citizens.

Key to this idea of states’ rights, is the freedom of mobility and travel. Citizens should have the freedom to move and travel within the nation without consideration of politics. Furthermore, if a person disagrees or favors one state’s policies over another’s, they should have the freedom to travel or move.

But leftist Democrats like Becerra believe they should control or at least influence policies in other states. If it was in their power, they would control national policies and therefore people’s attitudes and behavior including the freedom to travel.

California already bans official state-funded travel to Alabama, South Dakota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Texas. They probably would like control all private and personal travel in the name of liberal policies, too.
