IF MY PEOPLE… A Message to Christians – Part 13

Revival.  It’s a good word.  It releases joy.  It means fresh life.  Most Christians would be excited and grateful if revival occurred in their church or in their entire city.  I, too, would be grateful for revival but there’s something else beyond revival that I am believing and advocating for.  That something else is TRANSFORMATION. When transformation takes place in a city like Almolonga in Guatemala or a region like Baffin Bay in the eastern Arctic or in a nation like Fiji, spiritual life is certainly revived.  But society is also changed with decreased crime and restored relationships.  Furthermore, the…

The straw that broke the camel’s back.  A small thing.  A light thing.  The last thing.  The last straw. The last straw caused something very negative.  There’s a last something else that can cause something very positive; namely, the last person required to reach the critical mass required to start the process of God healing our land. God’s requirements and God’s promises are spelled out in 2 Chronicles 7:14.  It’s God’s people who hold the key. When God’s people fulfill His requirements, He will heal our land.  I believe the unfulfilled requirement is for God’s people to “turn from their…

I could hardly believe my eyes.  Two carrots longer than a man’s forearm!  Not as incredulous as one cluster of grapes carried on a pole by two men (see Numbers 13:23), but by far the largest carrots I’d ever seen.  What happened?  Wickedness followed by prayer, confession, repentance, turning from wicked ways and God healing the land in and around the city of Almolonga in Guatemala. The other produce was prolific as well.  Beets the size of softballs, cauliflower the size of pumpkins, radishes growing to maturity in 25 days instead of 60 or 40.  Farmers paid cash for new…

Are you a rare bird like the orange-bellied parrot?  The orange-bellied parrot is a small (8 inches long) broad-tailed parrot found in southern Australia.  The adult male is distinguished by its grass-green upperparts, yellow underparts and bright orange belly patch.  Adult females and juvenile parrots are duller green in color.  All have a blue frontal band and blue outer wing feathers.  It is estimated that there are only 150 orange-bellied parrots left in the world.  It is a rare bird. Are you a rare bird?  You might be considered as such if you have ever confessed the sin of coveting. …

What if each of us had a “Pinocchio” gene that caused our nose to grow an inch longer every time we told a lie?  There could be a whole cottage industry headquartered in Washington, D.C. featuring clips, ties, ribbons, even belts to help hold up and carry our appendages.  It certainly could help in deciding which candidate to vote for.  Choose the one with the shortest nose if you value truth. The commandment, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16) emphasizes speaking truth and protecting another person’s name. Truth is deemed very valuable in the Bible. …

“Heigh-ho, heigh-ho!  It’s off to work we go.  We keep on singing all day long.  Heigh-ho,  heigh-ho.” In their marching song in the movie “Snow White”, the dwarfs’ joyful attitude towards work suggests they may have grasped the Apostle Paul’s application of the commandment “You shall not steal” (Exodus 20:15). Initially in the Bible, the commandment focused on the protection of property.  In the Epistles, it is connected with the benefits that derive from labor. Stealing means taking something that belongs to someone else without the owner’s permission.  It includes the use of false weights on scales which is an…

What is the most valuable bed you can have? A sleep number bed allows you and your spouse to select the setting you each like best. A therapedic bed adjusts to your personal body shape. As valuable as these beds may be, there is one bed so valuable that God in essence wrapped one of the Ten Commandments around it. That bed is the undefiled marriage bed. “You shall not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14).  The context in other places in scripture where adultery is listed as sin indicates the spirit of this commandment deals with all practices of sexual immorality….

IF MY PEOPLE … A Message To Christians

This is the first in a series of reflections by Pastor Gerald Ripley It was too late. God’s forbearance was over. His judgment was in motion. Not even Noah, Daniel, and Job could have saved the nation (See Ezekiel, Chapter 14). God’s judgment did come with the army from Babylonia. The temple was destroyed. The walls of Jerusalem were broken down. The people of God were dispersed among the nations for seventy years. It could have been avoided. After Solomon’s temple had been dedicated (See 2 Chronicles, Chapter 7), God appeared to King Solomon one night and said “I have…
